Community Centre Murals
COMMUNITY CENTRE MURALS
The West Watford Community Association (WWCA) are using £4,222 in funding from Watford Borough Council's Neighbourhood Grant to enhance the visibility and accessibility of their community centre...
Since the establishment of WWCA in 1973 by a group of local residents, volunteering has been at the heart of this charity which is dedicated to serving the needs of the community. This includes offering a diverse range of affordable activities for all ages and interests.
Their community centre is home to board game gatherings, an art group, math clubs for youngsters, multiple exercise classes (e.g. for over 50s or women only sessions), singing and language classes, digital inclusion programs, craft sessions, and other community events like coffee mornings and memories group to foster a sense of inclusion, connection, friendship and learning within the neighbourhood.
With the support of the Neighbourhood Grant, the association is enhancing its community centre, making it even more inviting and accessible to the residents. This includes the installation of the new signage and a vibrant mural on the building's exterior, serving as a beacon of community and inclusion in the neighbourhood.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “With the dedication and support of its volunteers, the association positively impacts the lives of local residents every day. We are therefore delighted to support the efforts to enhance the visibility and accessibility of their community centre. Centres like these play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging and unity within our neighbourhoods.”
Peter Granger, Chair of West Watford Community Association Trustees, said: “We are grateful to the council for their generous grant, which will enable us to further our mission of fostering a vibrant and connected community in West Watford. This funding is not only enhancing the visibility of our community centre, but also reaffirms our commitment to providing affordable and responsive services, support, and activities tailored to the needs of our residents."
Below are some photos showing the murals, much undertaken by the Community Centre Art Group, in progress.
