St Michael's War Memorial Cross
On 29th September 2018 a new oak memorial cross was dedicated at St Michael and All Angels Church in West Watford.
The previous cross, which had stood for 90 years had become decayed and the names of the fallen of WWI illegible.
At a service conducted on the green outside the church and in beautiful sunshine, the new cross was dedicated by the Bishop of Bedford, the Rt Rev'd Richard Atkinson, in the presence of the Vicar, the Reverend Geoffrey Calvert, members of St Michael's congregation, members of the Syrian Jacobite Orthodox Church who worship at St Michael's, invited guests including local Councillors, the Royal British Legion and members of the West Watford History Group. Musical accompaniment was provided by musicians of the "Brass Bandits" conducted by Christine Deeley.
Following the service of dedication, those in attendance gathered inside the church for refreshment of tea and home-made cakes.
A floral tribute was placed at the foot of the cross by the West Watford History Group who had helped to research the names of the fallen.
